I've been having some trouble with my kid and REBELLIOUS BEHAVIOR. I've tried everything "traditional" to curb this behavior without much success. Grounding...er... doesn't work and it grounds ME just as much as it does her...So, Keith and I discussed a new way of doing things last night and I think I may try it out and write a book about it so other parents of crazy teenagers can use it to keep their sanity.
Here's how it works. CHANGE EVERYTHING that is normally very "comfortable" for the child into the "uncomfortable." Don't say a word. Just change it little by little and if nothing else, you'll get some satisfaction of playing a little mind game of your own. It's kinda like turning the tables on them - give them a dose of their own medicine so they just won't know what to expect and hopefully if all goes well - she'll be begging for things to go back to 'normal.'
If nothing else, I got so much enjoyment just THINKING about doing some of the things below to freak her little mind out. Here's some of what we thought about doing.....
- She hates spicy food, so I figured each night I would learn to cook something new with varied hot peppers. Now normally, I would make her a special dish without the zip.
- Get rid of her nice comfy california king bed and replace it with a few sets of bunk beds
- Why a few sets of bunkbeds? ohhh forgot to mention that i'll be adopting about 6 kids - all who don't speak english and she'll have to share her room. I'm sure she'll enjoy siblings.
- I think i may 'surprise her' with a couple of pet guinea pigs
- I may redecorate her room in a My Little Pony theme
- I'm thinking of throwing a couple of wild card parties at about 2am. hope i don't keep her up
- Next time parent teacher conferences come around, i'm gonna wear my jammies and some big fluffy slippers
- I think I may catch some syndrome that makes me slur my words and drool alot around large groups of teenagers.
- I'm thinking of removing all doors in the house so we can all be closer
- I think i'll register her name as a domain name and post some of my favorite pics and stories of her so if you google her name - voila.

ahahahahaaa! oh my, you're soo bad! I already feel pity for her :)
But teenagers are...well, teenagers, you know...you've been there and done that too :)
My advice? Lock her in her room ;) Oh, I forgot, you wanted to remove the doors... lol
This is embarrassing, but considering I was TECHNICALLY a teenager two years ago and a rebellious one about six years ago, I found the worst thing my mom could do is take away my privileges. If your daughter is a social butterfly, grounding her from friends and social activities will always work.
Taking away computer usage always pissed me off and straightened me up quickly. :P These are both kind of a negative reinforcement technique.
My last piece of advice is positive punishment, or adding a punishment (chores, more time spent on school work than leisure).
You've probably heard of or tried all of these already, but I figured I would speak to you from experience, hehe. Good luck girly! :P
She is indeed a social butterfly, but amazingly grounding her from a social life doesn't seem to effect her.
I added a new spin on things this time and made her do community service. Currently she is on a missions trip to an orphanage so I'm hopin' it'll be a life changing experience....and I won't have to change her room to a my pretty pony theme.
I'm afraid though that if you do that Miss Cristy, she'll get used to it and won't be bothered to ask to go back to normal.
It's me raphnix kristeejo!
Hey...just stumbled upon your blog....I just read something the other day that so totally described raising teens.......Raising teenagers is like nailing jello to the wall....thought I would share that with you.....Don't feel bad...right now I have 5 teens in the house. aarrgghh...we are ready to pull our hair out. :)
my parents took away my door when I was a teen, just made me really dislike them. Even teens need some privacy....just my opin of course. :)
I haven't taken away her door or turned her abode into my little pony. ; ) I've stuck to just grounding her from the phone, internet and anything outside our home.
wow i love you lol i c why you were trying to get me to reed this stuff and i kinda wish you would have done it not gana lie but she would have killed me to because i would just lol eney time i came to the house. J-D-S
no, i'd say posting her buisness on your blog beats all that.
