New People = Pain?

My daughter said something shocking to me the other day. She said, "I hate meeting new people because that's one more person I'll have to worry about dying."

That's an odd way to look at life. I explained to her if she didn't meet new people she would cheat herself out of much happiness and then used that time to explain to her there is no need to fear death.

Her comment took me off guard and made me wonder how many people avoid meeting new people or forming relationships to save themselves pain of some sort... I suppose if I'm honest with myself I've done this as well and yes, cheated myself.

My children teach me so much.

Perhaps she keeps inadvertently killing the people she knows? She may just not want to keep adding to the death toll. If so, she has a noble spirit, choosing the burden of loneliness over the stigma of multiple accidental manslaughter.

i think it's common to not want to get involved with people since you want to avoid the pain/complexity of involvement.

But not wanting to meet people because they might die?

Your daughter is a little offbeat. I like her attitude.
